“How to Make Candles with 464 Soy Wax: Step-by-Step Guide for Perfect Natural Candles”
Supplies Needed:
- 464 soy wax
- Fragrance oil (6–10% ratio, adjust to preference; e.g., 9% for strong scent)
- Candle wicks
- Containers (e.g., jars, tins)
- Wick stickers or glue dots
- Wick Center – metal
- Digital kitchen scale
- Double boiler or wax melter
- Thermometer
- Mixing spoon or whisk
- Heat-resistant pouring pitcher
Steps to Make Candles:
- Prepare Your Containers:
- Clean and dry candle containers.
- Secure wicks to the center of the containers using wick stickers or glue dots.
- Place wick center and secure wick in place
- Measure Ingredients:
- Weigh out the soy wax: Example, for 16 oz of wax, use 1.44 oz of fragrance oil for a 9% ratio.
- Measure fragrance oil separately with the digital scale.
- Melt the Wax:
- Heat the 464 soy wax in a double boiler until it reaches 185°F (85°C), stirring occasionally.
- Add Fragrance Oil:
- Remove melted wax from heat.
- Stir in the pre-measured fragrance oil for 2 minutes to ensure it binds fully with the wax.
- Cool the Wax:
- Let the wax cool to 135°F (57°C) for optimal pouring temperature.
- Pour the Wax:
- Carefully pour the wax into prepared containers
- Ensure wick is still centered
- Note: warming the containers prior to pouring helps wax adhere to the side (not required)
- Set and Cure:
- Allow candles to set at room temperature for at least 24 hours.
- Cure for 1–2 weeks for best fragrance throw and wax performance.
- Trim the Wicks:
- Trim wicks to ¼ inch before lighting to reduce soot and ensure a clean burn.
- Apply required warning label to bottom prior to selling candles
