Why Compliance Matters: Improper medication administration documentation is one of the most cited areas in Ohio DODD reviews.

To attend training, DSPs must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma (or GED), and have background check results completed by a developmental disabilities agency (or by being a DODD-certified independent provider). This information is submitted to the RN Trainer on the official Medication Administration Certification Course Application.

A picture ID is required to attend training. Lateness, sleeping, or classroom disturbances are not tolerated. If student is asked to leave, training may be retaken at a later date for no charge (or substitute another student).

Testing is Ohio DODD approved, written, multiple choice, closed book and requires a score of 80% to pass, as well as a hands on skills check, documentation exercise onto MAR, and an evaluation of the course.

Free Medical Terminology online course is offered; especially helpful if student’s first language is not english. This is emerging as the number one obstacle to training DSPs in safe medication administration training. Our pass rate is 97%. Students may retake the entire training for no additional charge.

How do REMOTE renewals work?

The Ohio DODD has approved blended learning. Since 2018 we have offered renewals through self-paced online courses taught by the RN Trainer, and a relevant skills check for what DSPs actually do at work.

C1 Renew: 2 hour online course + relevant skills check with RN Trainer OR skill check with your certified, experienced Supervisor, manager or nurse (LPN or RN). Then send applicatin and skill check via email.

C2 Renew: 1 hour online course + in-person skills check with RN Trainer or your delegating nurse.

C3 Renew: 1 hour online course + in-person skills check with RN Trainer or your delegating nurse.

Optional county board nurse – relevant skills check for independent providers is acceptable.

When is a delegating nurse required?

Staff who have a current certification, and have had IST (individual specific training), also need delegation from a nurse when performing these skills and for annual skills check:

C1 Medication Administration – for glucagon injection

C2 G/J Tubes – All skills checked in person by agency nurse or our RN Trainer

C3 Insulin & Injections – All skills checked in person by agency nurse or our RN Trainer

(The RN Trainer teaching these initial and renewal courses is not the agency delegating nurse).

How do I sign up?

1.Register online by reserving a seat for training. Include a phone number for student to recieve a text reminder 24 hours prior to training date. 2. Then complete the required official Ohio DODD Application Form and email to [email protected]. 3. Can I change my course date?

Absolutely! As long as you provide us with at least 24 hours’ notice, you can switch your course without any additional charges. You may also choose to substitute a student if necessary. Email is the best way to let us know there will be a change, or you can use the link in the registration email to choose a different date or cancel the reservation.

What’s your refund policy?

For courses rescheduled, there are no refunds available. However, we will do our best to accommodate your needs, to switch students or a training date.
