Course Overview
Certification 3 authorizes a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to administer insulin and other prescribed injections for individuals diagnosed with metabolic disorders, as defined by Ohio Administrative Code 5123-6.
This 4-hour, in-person course teaches DSPs how to correctly prepare and administer insulin, recognize hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, respond to emergencies, and complete all required documentation.
DSPs will perform hands-on demonstrations under the supervision of an Ohio DODD-approved RN Trainer to demonstrate competency prior to certification.
This certification is required before a DSP may perform any insulin or metabolic disorder-related injections in a DODD service setting. ADDITIONALLY: DSPs are required to have all of these skills delaged by a nurse (not the RN Trainer teaching the course).
