How to Make Wax Melt Tarts with 464 Soy Wax: Step-by-Step Guide with 9% Fragrance Oil Ratio

Supplies Needed:

  • 464 soy wax
  • Fragrance oil (9% ratio to wax)
  • Digital kitchen scale
  • Double boiler or wax melter
  • Silicone mold or clamshell containers
  • Thermometer
  • Mixing spoon or whisk
  • Heat-resistant pouring pitcher

Steps to Make Wax Melt Tarts:

  1. Measure Ingredients:
    • Weigh out wax: Example, for 1 lb (16 oz) of wax, use 1.44 oz of fragrance oil (16 oz × 9%).
    • Measure fragrance oil separately using the digital scale.
  2. Melt the Wax:
    • Heat the soy wax in a double boiler to 185°F (85°C). Stir occasionally to ensure even melting.
  3. Add Fragrance Oil:
    • Once the wax reaches 185°F, remove it from heat.
    • Slowly stir in the pre-measured fragrance oil for 2 minutes to fully incorporate.
  4. Cool the Wax:
    • Let the mixture cool to 135°F (57°C) before pouring to prevent cracking or uneven cooling.
  5. Pour into Molds:
    • Carefully pour the wax into silicone molds or clamshell containers.
  6. Set and Cure:
    • Allow wax melts to set completely at room temperature for at least 24 hours.
    • Cure for 1–2 weeks for optimal fragrance throw.
  7. Finish and Use:
    • Pop out of molds or snap clamshells shut, label, and enjoy!
