Supplies Needed:
- 464 soy wax
- Fragrance oil (9% ratio to wax)
- Digital kitchen scale
- Double boiler or wax melter
- Silicone mold or clamshell containers
- Thermometer
- Mixing spoon or whisk
- Heat-resistant pouring pitcher
Steps to Make Wax Melt Tarts:
- Measure Ingredients:
- Weigh out wax: Example, for 1 lb (16 oz) of wax, use 1.44 oz of fragrance oil (16 oz × 9%).
- Measure fragrance oil separately using the digital scale.
- Melt the Wax:
- Heat the soy wax in a double boiler to 185°F (85°C). Stir occasionally to ensure even melting.
- Add Fragrance Oil:
- Once the wax reaches 185°F, remove it from heat.
- Slowly stir in the pre-measured fragrance oil for 2 minutes to fully incorporate.
- Cool the Wax:
- Let the mixture cool to 135°F (57°C) before pouring to prevent cracking or uneven cooling.
- Pour into Molds:
- Carefully pour the wax into silicone molds or clamshell containers.
- Set and Cure:
- Allow wax melts to set completely at room temperature for at least 24 hours.
- Cure for 1–2 weeks for optimal fragrance throw.
- Finish and Use:
- Pop out of molds or snap clamshells shut, label, and enjoy!
